Daisy Edgar-Jones has opened up for the first time about her debilitating battle with endometriosis, sharing how she has learned to manage the painful condition over the years.

The actress, 27, shared that she was diagnosed with the condition at the age of 24 while taking fans through her day-to-night beauty routine in a new YouTube video with Vogue released on Tuesday.

While carrying out her skincare routine, Daisy explained that she struggled with severe acne throughout her teenage years and also suffered from painful periods before eventually receiving a diagnosis.

She said: ‘I have endometriosis, so my hormones are kind of all over the place. I had extremely bad acne for most of my teenage years.

‘When I had terrible acne, it was all I could see when I looked in the mirror. For so long, I had such painful periods and really volatile skin.

‘I was diagnosed when I was, I think I was 24. I was definitely relieved to find out why I was going through it.’

Endometriosis is a chronic and often painful medical condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb (uterus) grows in other locations, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

It can cause inflammation, scar tissue, and severe symptoms, including debilitating period pain, infertility, and chronic pelvic pain.

According to the NHS, the condition affects an estimated two million women in the UK.

Over time, Daisy said she has found a skincare routine that works for her and has also noticed improvements by adjusting her diet.

She said: ‘I’ve found over the years skincare that really works for me.

‘But I also find drinking lots of water and when I eat well – especially when I try and not eat as much dairy – that really helps.’

The actress also shared an encouraging message for others struggling with acne.

She said: ‘When I had terrible acne, it was all I could see when I looked in the mirror.

‘But actually, when I look back at photos and videos, it’s funny that so much of the beauty of you is inside, and the confidence that you wear can really help.

‘So I would say to anyone with acne – I know it’s all you can see, but it’s not what everyone else can see.’

The couple are relatively private and generally keeps their romance under wraps, rarely speaking about one another in interviews.

However, Ben is no stranger to a high-profile relationship, having previously dated The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy.

He split up with Anya ahead of her beating Daisy to the best actress at the Golden Globes in 2021.

Meanwhile, Daisy split from her ex-boyfriend Tom Varey in late 2020 after two years of dating.

Daisy is said to be on ‘cloud nine’ with Ben, who also goes by the artist name Pip.

A source previously told The Sun: ‘Daisy and Pip got together earlier this year and have become inseparable.

‘They have both had some free time this summer and love hanging out in Broadway Market in East London, just going to bars and spending time together.

‘There’s a real spark there, and they are excited about finding each other. They’ve already met one another’s friends, and she is on cloud nine.’

WHAT IS ENDOMETRIOSIS?

Endometriosis occurs when cells in the lining of the uterus are found elsewhere in the body.

Each month, these cells react in the same way as those in the uterus; building up, breaking down and bleeding. Yet, the blood has no way to escape the body.

Symptoms include pain, heavy periods and fatigue, as well as a higher risk of infertility, and bowel and bladder problems.

Its cause is unknown but may be genetic, related to problems with the immune system or exposure to chemicals.

Treatment focuses on pain relief and improving quality of life, which may include surgery or hormone treatment.
