Conor Garland traded to Blue Jackets as Canucks add draft picks ahead of NHL deadline

The Vancouver Canucks have traded winger Conor Garland to the Columbus Blue Jackets ahead of the NHL trade deadline.

The team announced on Thursday that Vancouver will receive a second round pick in the 2028 NHL draft and a third round pick in this year’s draft in exchange for the 29-year-old forward.

That extension begins with the 2026-27 season and he is currently playing the final year of a five year contract worth $4.95 million annually.

Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin thanked Garland for his time with the team in a statement saying: “We really appreciate all that Conor has done for the hockey club and want to thank him for his five years in Vancouver.”

“A play driver and strong competitor, he was a key contributor on the ice. Collecting two more draft picks aligns really well with our vision moving forward and will help us in our rebuild.”

Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell also welcomed Garland after the trade.

“Conor is a versatile player who brings great energy to the lineup every night and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome he and his family to Columbus,” Waddell said in a statement.

“He has tremendous character, plays a reliable two-way game and will be an important part of our club now and in the future.”
