BUREWALA:

A university professor accused of harassing a female student at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Burewala campus was granted post-arrest bail on Saturday, a day after being taken into custody.

Police said Dr Yahya Khan was arrested on Friday after a video circulated on social media allegedly showing him making inappropriate advances and engaging in objectionable conversation with a female student in June this year.

He was suspended by the university following the video’s release and barred from entering the campus.

Police produced Dr Yahya before a local magistrate, who approved his post-arrest bail against surety bonds of Rs50,000.

After the completion of legal formalities, he was released.

University sources said the affected student had filed a written complaint about three weeks ago, which is being probed by the Harassment Committee under the supervision of the vice chancellor. The matter gained urgency after Vehari DPO took notice on Friday and ordered legal action.
