Brittany Mahomes has pleaded with her Instagram followers to donate money to the neighbors of her and Patrick’s friend after their house was destroyed by a fire.

The wife of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback posted a statement on Thursday, telling her followers: ‘A little goes a long way in times like these so anything helps!’

A GoFundMe page set up for the victims – Brian and Jen – details a terrifying story of how a s’mores maker caused their family home to go up in flames.

Details about the incident reveal that when the parents briefly left the house to return their food truck just a few miles away their three children Brayden, 11, Maddox, 9, and Rowan, 7, decided to make s’mores.

Thinking the machine had cooled down enough to put it back, the children placed it in the pantry and covered it with plastic. Sadly it had not and it caught flames within minutes.

Smoke quickly filled the property and Brayden made a split-second decision to evacuate his brother, sister and the family’s dog before calling his parents.

They then ran to their neighbors, who comforted the children and tried to extinguish the fire but it had already spread out of control.

The parents returned within minutes and fire fighters arrived shortly after. They were able to put out the blaze eventually but it had destroyed almost everything inside the house.

In a statement posted to her Instagram story, Mahomes wrote: ‘Hi guys, a friend of ours’ neighbor just lot their home to a fire!

‘If you feel inclined to help please do. A little goes a long way in times like these so anything helps!’

Mahomes has been enjoying some time with his family after the Chiefs enjoyed their bye last weekend.

He returns to action against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, knowing the Chiefs need to put a run of victories together if they are to win the AFC West title again.

After Kansas City dominated the series for a decade, the Broncos have won two of their last three meetings, both in Denver, and they were about to win at Arrowhead Stadium last season until a blocked field goal attempt as time expired.
