A mother has been charged with murder after her seven-year-old son was found dead with his head hanging out of a car window, police have said.

Mazi Simmons from Milledgeville was found unresponsive in the car in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, on April 6.

The little boy’s mother, Kandice Grace, was discovered by police unconscious and under the influence of narcotics in the car’s passenger seat.

The 32-year-old mom was arrested on a second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children charges on September 29.

Investigators said Mazi was found in the back seat of the vehicle with his head caught in a closing window, according to an arrest warrant obtained by 11Alive.

Two of Grace’s other children were also found in the car but were unharmed.

Investigators alleged that Grace left her children unattended after she passed out from drug use while driving.

Police reported that during an on-scene interview with the mother, she continuously lost consciousness while trying to hold her child.

The authorities were able to get a warrant to test Grace for drugs, according to the source.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation later found that the woman had tested positive for opioids and THC.

A witness reported to police that Grace visited her home the night before her son’s death, and left her children in the car.

The next morning, the witness found Grace passed out and the boy’s head hanging out of the window.

Karion Bickham, the child’s godmother, started a GoFundMe for Mazi.

According to the fundraiser, Mazi was not the first child the 32-year-old mother has lost.

‘Mazi was her second child, and heartbreakingly, not her first loss. She also lost her daughter Jordice, and now she is enduring the unthinkable pain of saying goodbye to another piece of her heart,’ a post on the page reads.

The fundraiser described Mazi as being one of a kind and full of life.

‘Whether he was dancing, striking his signature peace sign, or just being his silly, playful self, he always found a way to make everyone around him feel joy. He loved life and he loved deeply,’ said the GoFundMe.

According to the mom’s social media, she is an amateur music artist and runs her own cosmetic services company.

Her stage name is KKokaine Kandi and a music video by her on YouTube has nearly 7,000 views.
