Former Australian cricketer Paul Rofe has faced court after allegedly assaulting a young boy.

Rofe, 44, was charged with committing aggravated assault that causes harm following an alleged incident in March, according to court documents.

It is alleged the boy was under the age of 12 at the time of the alleged offending, which allegedly occurred in Adelaide’s inner-south.

Earlier this week, Christies Beach Magistrates Court heard the charge will be contested by Rofe.

Counsel for Rofe said ‘from a negotiations standpoint we’ve asked the matter to be reviewed, with a view to have them [the charge] withdrawn’.

Rofe represented South Australia between 2000 and 2009 as a right-arm quick, and also played for Northamptonshire in England’s County Championship.

The paceman retired from professional cricket in 2008, finishing his career with 260 wickets across 115 first-class, domestic one-day and domestic Twenty20 games.

After hanging up his game-day spikes, Rofe turned his attention to radio.

He was also a corporate sales executive for Port Adelaide Football Club, according to his LinkedIn page.

Daily Mail understands Rofe is currently a sales manager for Felix Transport in Adelaide.

Rofe also currently runs a coaching business where he mentors salespeople and managers.

‘A couple of early roles led me to the transport industry, and it just felt like the right fit,’ his business website states.

‘I’ve since built a career I’m proud of – with a lot of help from some amazing mentors.

‘I also enjoy helping young people get started in their own careers.’

Rofe is currently on bail and his case will go to a pre-trial conference in January.
