Ben Leo has waded into the debate surrounding rapper Bad Bunny’s half-time performance at Super Bowl LX on Sunday evening.

The performer, who had already caused controversy with his political grandstanding prior to the gig, divided opinion when he provided the first-ever half-time show entirely in Spanish.

Taking to the stage at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the 31-year-old reeled off a number of his best-known tracks before welcoming some very famous faces to join him on stage.

His setlist opened with Tití Me Preguntó before moving into Yo Perreo Sola, the feminist anthem from YHLQMDLG, and Safaera.

The routine also featured a number of well-known guest appearances, with Ricky Martin joining Bad Bunny on stage before Lady Gaga made a surprise appearance.

During the dance numbers, there were celebrity cameos aplenty, with Pedro Pascal, Cardi B, and Jessica Alba all showing their support.

However, the fact that the entire performance was delivered in Spanish, along with a handful of subtle political jibes along the way, left plenty to be desired among critics.

The half-time show was panned by critics for being too “woke”, with some even going as far as to call it the “worst half-time show in history”.

Ben echoed the sentiment held by critics throughout the United States, questioning why the biggest game in the calendar of the country’s national sport would be performed entirely in Spanish.

“Forget the trash music,” Ben’s brutal critique began on X. “What’s the point in having a half-time show in Spanish?”

He signed off: “A lot of people can’t understand what’s being said. Just weird.”

It wasn’t just Ben and a number of American Football fans who felt that way, either. Moments after the half-time show, President Donald Trump had his say.

“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!” he penned on his Truth Social site.

He continued: “It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence.

“Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World.

“This ‘Show’ is just a ‘slap in the face’ to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day – including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History!

“There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD.

“And by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new Kickoff Rule,” President Trump went on before he concluded with his signature: “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” (sic)

The political hostilities between Trump and Bad Bunny have been bubbling for months, but were reignited when the rapper criticsed Ice (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) at the Grammys earlier this month.

After winning one of his three awards on the night, the rapper began his speech by saying: “Ice out.”

The political controversy resulted in President Trump stating he would not watch the Super Bowl due to his disapproval of both the Puerto Rican rapper and Green Day, who performed during the pregame segment.

However, given his no-holds-barred assessment of the half-time show, it’s safe to say he tuned in – and their public spat shows no signs of slowing down.
