Anthony Joshua health update issued after heavyweight boxer involved in fatal car crash in Nigeria

Anthony Joshua is in a “stable” condition after the car he was travelling in crashed in Nigeria.

The British boxer was travelling in the Ogun State in the south-west of the country when the vehicle crashed, resulting in the deaths of two people.


Ogun State Government has confirmed the incident took place at about 11am in Makun and officers are still investigating the incident.

An official spokesman said the incident took place when a vehicle collided with a stationary truck along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, resulting in two fatalities.

A spokesman said: “Anthony Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos. Following comprehensive clinical assessments, doctors have confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency medical intervention at this time.

“A full medical team has been assembled and will continue to monitor them closely.Anthony Joshua is conscious and has been in communication with his family.

“The Governments of Ogun and Lagos States are closely monitoring the situation and will ensure that the affected persons receive the best possible medical care.

“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident have also commenced.”
