A pub owner has warned that this Christmas “we can’t honestly say we had a particularly great rush,” adding, “I think Father Christmas has probably flown straight past the chimney of hospitality this year, and he’s forgotten us a little bit.”
Speaking to GB News, he stressed the cultural importance of pubs, calling them “the cornerstone of British culture… where we go to discuss ideas, meet our families, and just let our hair down.”
On Government support, he urged ministers to “actually stop and listen to the problem, sit down with people actually out and about working, running, owning and operating pubs and restaurants and hotels.”
He also revealed his stance on a growing campaign to ban MPs from pubs, saying, “I was possibly right at the front of the queue when it came down to banning Labour MPs. The hospitality section is getting squeezed and squeezed and squeezed in terms of profit.”
