Laura Woods has reassured viewers that she is recovering well after collapsing live on air during England’s women’s international against Ghana in Southampton, revealing she was treated by paramedics before being taken from the broadcast position.

The presenter, 38, was fronting ITV4’s coverage from St Mary’s Stadium when she suddenly fell forward mid-segment and had to be caught by pundits Ian Wright and Anita Asante, prompting the programme to cut abruptly to an advert break.

Several hours later, Woods addressed the incident on Instagram and attempted to calm mounting concern among fans and colleagues.

“Gosh that was a bit weird. Sorry to worry everyone, I’m OK. The wonderful paramedics at Saints have said it’s probably a virus, just need a bit of rest and hydration,” she wrote.

“I’m really embarrassed that happened on TV but a big thank you to my colleagues at ITV who have really looked after me tonight. And to Wrighty and Neets for catching me. And sorry again.”

During the broadcast, Wright could briefly be heard asking, “Are you OK?” before the audio was cut.

Once coverage resumed, presenter Katie Shanahan confirmed she had stepped in “at late notice”, explaining to viewers: “As you have probably noticed we don’t have the wonderful Laura Woods because she’s just been taken ill but she’s in very good hands.”

Woods’ fiancé, Adam Collard, sought to reassure the public soon afterwards, posting on X: “Laura is all ok and with the right people. Thank you for all of your kind messages.”

TNT Sports, where Woods also works, offered its support: “Everyone at TNT Sports would like to send Laura Woods our very best wishes. Get well soon, Woodsy.”

Well-wishers flooded social media as clips of the incident circulated.

One fan wrote: “Hope Laura Woods is ok!”

Another added: “Upsetting to see Laura Woods faint. Glad Ian Wright caught her. Speedy recovery.”

A third posted: “Hope Laura Woods is alright. Get well soon!”

Woods, one of the most prominent broadcasters in British sport, divides her time between ITV and TNT Sports, presenting major football coverage including the men’s Champions League.

Her on-air collapse came just months after she returned from maternity leave: she gave birth to her son, Leo, in January and resumed presenting duties in April.

Her relationship with Collard, known for his stints on Love Island and Celebrity SAS, became public in October 2023, and the pair announced their engagement the following September after he proposed on a beach in St Ives, Cornwall.

Alongside photographs of the moment, Woods wrote: “And just like that… You make me happy.

“Thank you @carbisbayestate – the place we fell in love and now the place we got engaged, you made it so special. What a summer x.”

Collard shared his own tribute, calling Woods his “whole world”.

“From dates & daiquiri’s to a Fiancé & a sprog on the way, our very own little team. My whole world. Always,” he posted.

Reflecting last year on how their relationship began, Collard admitted he had sent Woods a direct message after seeing her Instagram story.

“I’d followed her on Instagram because I’d seen a Lionesses game or something like that and then I DMd her because she put like a funny meme on her story,” he said. “I will hold my hands up, yes I acknowledge that even though she’s had my life about this a lot of times.”
