Darts star Gerwyn Price has shed an impressive 16kg after overhauling his lifestyle with regular gym sessions and swapping junk food for healthier options like Nando’s.
The Welshman, nicknamed ‘The Iceman’, has slimmed down from 104kg to 88kg, a transformation that has reinvigorated both his physique and his mental approach to the sport.
Price’s resurgence has seen him climb back into the top 10 of the Order of Merit whilst also securing a ProTour title this season.
The 39-year-old will put his improved form to the test on Thursday evening when he takes on Stephen Bunting in front of his home crowd in Cardiff.
Price has credited his early morning workout routine as a key factor in his improved performances on the oche.
“The more I train leading up to games, the better I seem to play,” he told Red Dragon.
The former world champion explained that rising at 7am to hit the gym sets him up mentally for the day ahead, with protein intake forming part of his post-workout recovery.

“If I miss a session or I don’t get up and go to the gym and then roll out of bed at 10am, you just don’t feel the same person. You feel lethargic,” Price admitted.
“But if I am up at 7am in the gym, get that done and go back home, get the protein in, you just feel like you are set up for the day.”
Rather than following a rigid meal preparation plan, Price has opted for a more flexible approach centred on making smarter food choices.

“I don’t meal prep. I just have a Nando’s or a Wagamama’s. If you have a Nando’s it is not bad food,” he explained.
“It is just chicken and cutting out the bits in between. The crisps and the chocolate, Haribos, which are my favourite.”
The Welshman acknowledged that eating late at night after matches presents the biggest challenge, particularly when hunger strikes.
“It’s just trying to cut out the junk food. And eating late at night when you play is the hardest part, especially when you are starving,” Price said.
“It’s just making good choices.”
Price believes that shedding the weight gradually whilst maintaining his busy playing schedule has allowed him to adapt seamlessly at the oche.

“I think if you lose it too quickly it can probably affect you,” he noted.
“When you are playing as consistently and as often as me and Luke Humphries are, then you don’t really feel the difference because it’s gradual.”
The former world champion suggested that losing a couple of pounds each week whilst competing regularly has made the transition far easier than if he had taken an extended break from the sport.
Beyond the physical benefits, Price has found renewed self-assurance from his slimmer frame.
“When I put on a 34 waist instead of a 36 waist I feel even better,” he said.
“I’m glad I have lost it and feel a lot better in myself. It gives me a lot more confidence.”
