Jeff Stelling has reassured fans that he’s simply taking a fortnight off from his talkSPORT Breakfast show for some well-deserved rest and relaxation.

The beloved broadcaster, 70, made the announcement at the end of Tuesday’s programme, but it was a now-deleted graphic posted by talkSPORT on social media that got listeners worried.

The post sparked concern among fans, with many wondering why the broadcasting legend was stepping away.

Stelling quickly moved to calm any fears, responding directly to the station’s deleted X post.

“Just for clarity, couple of weeks off,” he wrote.

During the show itself, the Hartlepool-born presenter had already explained his plans.

“I’m just going to chill out for a bit of rest and relaxation,” he told listeners. “I’ll see you when I’m back.”

Stelling joined talkSPORT after departing Sky Sports in 2023, where he had spent three decades with the broadcaster.

He now presents the Breakfast show from 6am to 10am on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, sharing the microphone with former Rangers and Scotland striker Ally McCoist.

Ex-Ipswich forward Alan Brazil also shares hosting duties with Stelling at the UK’s most-listened-to sports radio station.

The announcement comes just weeks after Brazil himself had to take time away from the airwaves.

The Scot was taken off air during a show in January and subsequently took a few weeks off after contracting an ear infection.

“I had a big infection in my right ear and my left ear was blocked I was sat here thinking I was going to fall off my chair,” Brazil explained.

“That’s the worst I’ve been terrible.”

Stelling’s social media response came after talkSPORT’s graphic prompted plenty of questions from concerned listeners.

The station has since removed the post from X, but not before fans had their say.

One listener accused the station of clickbait tactics, writing: “Victim of talkSPORT’s own clickbait. Have a word, Jeff.”

Another took a more light-hearted view, commenting: “So taking annual leave then.”

A third fan couldn’t resist poking fun at the situation: “Lol, they were ready to write your obituary, Jeff! Enjoy your break.”

Brazil will be stepping into Stelling’s shoes while he’s away, keeping the Breakfast show ticking along.
