The press conference announcing Tyson Fury’s return to the ring descended into chaos this afternoon when his father John stormed the event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What should have been a straightforward promotional gathering for the heavyweight’s bout against Arslanbek Makhmudov was swiftly derailed by a heated confrontation between the elder Fury and former world champion Carl Froch.

The DAZN pundit found himself the target of a profanity-laden verbal assault, with John Fury demanding the 48-year-old face him directly.

The extraordinary scenes completely eclipsed the official announcement of the April 11 contest, leaving organisers scrambling to regain control of proceedings.

With Froch positioned on a platform above him, the elder Fury unleashed his tirade.

“Where the f*** are you? The world’s been calling me a f***ing shithouse,” he bellowed.

“Put some f***ing respect on the name of John Fury. And get that Carl Froch here. If he wants it, I’m f***ing here.”

The 65-year-old then proclaimed himself “the ultimate f***ing male” whilst challenging anyone else present to confront him.

As he departed the room, Fury continued hurling abuse in Froch’s direction, repeatedly branding the former super-middleweight champion a “f***ing b****” for allegedly avoiding the confrontation.

The outburst proved impossible to ignore during DAZN’s live broadcast, with presenter Anna Woolhouse acknowledging the commotion whilst addressing viewers.

“The fun and games have already kicked off. John Fury has been getting stuck into it… you might be able to hear him in the background,” she remarked, standing alongside Froch and boxing legend Lennox Lewis.

The former world champion maintained his composure despite the provocation.

“He’s already started. He’s started on me a little bit,” Froch observed.

“I don’t know what he wants me to have! Let’s just do what we’ve got to do. Let’s be professional, and see what unfolds.”

Amidst the pandemonium, the actual purpose of the gathering risked being forgotten entirely.

Fury will face Russian-born Canadian Arslanbek Makhmudov, known as ‘Lion’, at the north London venue on 11 April.

The 36-year-old challenger boasts an impressive record of 21 victories from 23 contests, with a fearsome knockout ratio that has seen 19 opponents fail to hear the final bell.

Makhmudov favours an aggressive, power-punching approach, with 13 of his stoppages coming in the opening round.

His most recent outing saw him claim the WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Britain’s Dave Allen in Sheffield last October.
