Wagner, who serves as co-CEO at Knighthead Capital Management, assumed the chairmanship at St Andrew’s when his firm completed their takeover through subsidiary Shelby Companies Limited in July 2023.
Under his stewardship, the club secured promotion back to the Championship.
The American businessman also facilitated the arrival of NFL icon Tom Brady as a minority investor in the club, with both figures becoming regular presences at matches and engaging frequently with supporters.
Since taking charge, Knighthead has poured significant funds into player recruitment and upgraded the club’s existing infrastructure at their training ground and stadium facilities.

Wagner has been the driving force behind the club’s ambitious proposal for a new 62,000-capacity stadium, which would form the centrepiece of a Sports Quarter development in Birmingham.
When the plans were unveiled in November, the chairman spoke of his vision for the project.
Wagner said at the time: “This is a huge milestone for Birmingham City creating a home for the club that reflects our ambition to compete at the highest level.”
He described the stadium design as “a statement of intent for the City of Birmingham and the West Midlands, testament to a region that is on the rise.”
