Jannik Sinner’s hopes of claiming a third Australian Open crown in a row came to an abrupt end when Novak Djokovic defeated him in the semi-finals this year.

The Italian hadn’t suffered a loss in Melbourne for more than three years before facing the Serbian veteran in the last four.

Sinner raced into a 2-1 lead, but the 38-year-old Djokovic produced a remarkable fightback to win 3-2 and book his spot in the final against Carlos Alcaraz.

While the world number one had plenty of support at Rod Laver Arena, his girlfriend Laila Hasanovic was noticeably missing from his player box.

Other tennis partners grabbed the spotlight in Melbourne, with Taylor Fritz’s girlfriend Morgan Riddle and Alexander Zverev’s new flame Caroline Daur both cheering courtside. But Hasanovic chose to skip the tournament entirely.

It turns out the 25-year-old Danish model had professional commitments that took priority.

Her Instagram posts revealed she was busy walking runways at Copenhagen and Paris Fashion Weeks while her boyfriend battled it out on court.

The career-driven decision meant she couldn’t be there to support Sinner during his quarter-final clash with Ben Shelton or the dramatic semi-final showdown with Djokovic.

Hasanovic is typically a fixture in Sinner’s player box during major Grand Slam matches. She was present for his French Open final appearance and Wimbledon victory in 2025, though these occasions came before they officially confirmed their romance.

The couple went public at the Vienna Open in October 2025, where Sinner triumphed over Zverev in the final. During his victory speech, the Italian openly acknowledged their relationship for the first time.

“To everyone here, my family, my girlfriend, my friends and my whole team watching from home, thank you so much for your support,” Sinner said after his win.

The Danish model sat alongside Sinner’s parents that day.

Sinner isn’t Hasanovic’s first high-profile romance. Before the tennis star, she dated former Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher, son of the legendary Michael.

The pair were together for roughly three years before splitting in April 2025.

Sinner also had his own relationship end around the same time. He and fellow tennis player Anna Kalinskaya called it quits in May 2025, just months before he and Hasanovic made their romance official.

Both found love again relatively quickly, with their relationship becoming public knowledge at the Vienna Open later that autumn.
